Outline Programme and Venues
The conference will begin on the afternoon of Thursday 11 October and end on the evening of Saturday 13 October. There will be three parallel sessions, accommodating a total of about seventy speakers. The parallel sessions will all be held in Newman House, a Georgian townhouse on St Stephen’s Green and the original site of the university founded by Cardinal Newman in the mid-nineteenth century.The confirmed plenary speakers are: Barry Bergdoll (MoMA and Columbia University, New York), Steve Pile (Open University, UK), and Anthony Vidler (The Cooper Union, New York). Barry Bergdoll and Steve Pile will speak on the Friday, Anthony Vidler on the Saturday. His talk will be chaired by Kathleen James-Chakraborty, who will also offer a concluding overview of the conference. The plenary sessions will take place in the late afternoon/evening of Friday and Saturday in the auditorium of the National Gallery of Ireland in Merrion Square, a short walk from Newman House.
An exhibition related to the theme of the conference featuring the work of contemporary Irish architects will run concurrently in Newman House.

Receptions/Social Events
A reception to mark the opening of the Defining Space conference and exhibition will take place on Thursday evening in the Irish Architectural Archive.
The conference dinner (included in the conference fee) will take place on Friday evening in the rotunda of City Hall, originally the Royal Exchange, one of Dublin’s finest Georgian buildings.
